A DIN SPEC in accordance with the Pre-standard procedure is the result of a standardization project which has not yet been published as a standard by DIN due to certain provisos to the content or due to the draft procedures deviating from a standard. This DIN SPEC has been prepared in accordance with the Pre-standard procedure by Working Committee NA 062-06-34 AA "Anforderungen an Heizöle und Schifffahrtsbrennstoffe" ("Requirements for fuel oils and marine fuels") at the Fachausschuss Mineralöl- und Brennstoffnormung (FAM) (Standardization Committee for petroleum, fuels, lubricants and related products) of the Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products Standardization Committee (NMP). This document specifies the requirements and limit values currently considered necessary, together with the test methods to be used for testing these characteristics for alternative liquid fuels, which are particularly suitable for oil firing installations in accordance with DIN 4755 and oil appliances in accordance with TRÖl. Further supplementary characteristics can be incorporated in succeeding editions after successful technical and analytical clarification. In contrast to DIN 51603-1 "Fuel oil EL", fuels are specified in this document, which also contain, in addition to components which are exclusively mineral oil-based, other components, for instance, of biogenic origin, such as fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) in accordance with DIN EN 14213 or DIN EN 14214. The use of the fuels specified in this document in the oil installations referred to is only permissible if corresponding manufacturer approvals exist; where appropriate, technical modifications (for instance, a single-pipe system) are necessary for trouble-free operation. In this document, requirements are specified for alternative liquid fuels which are necessary for the fail-safe application of these fuels in oil appliances, as well as their testing. The aim is that alterative liquid fuels can be employed in oil installations and oil appliances found in the market with corresponding technical modifications, where appropriate. As practical experience for long-term and trouble-free operation of these alternative fuels is not yet considered complete and sufficient by all interested groups, this document does not claim to provide a complete description of necessary characteristics, if appropriate, and is therefore published as a prestandard for the time being. Therefore, for the time being, only such characteristics are specified which have been recognised as being necessary and indispensable for sufficient quality in previous technical discussions.
This document has been replaced by: DIN SPEC 51603-6:2017-03 .
