Overview

An optimum, ergonomically comfortable and safe design of products with the interface human - technical environment can only be done on the basis of a good adaptation of the designed environment to the biological and physiological needs of the human body. The values of the human body dimensions (anthropometric data) are one essential aspect. In all areas of our modern world, people interact with products or in technical environments that are only rarely individually adapted to the individual user. In practice, body dimensions and derived sizes are used in a variety of areas such as the design of production areas and other work spaces, public spaces (for example, interiors in means of transport, school equipment), machine workplaces, everyday wear, safety and security clothing, footwear, technical medical devices and many other areas. In addition, these dimensions also form the basis for the development of computer-aided simulation systems (CAD systems, computer manikins). In order to be able to design the technical environment in a safe and comfortable way, the purpose of this guideline is to show designers, production planners, examiners, designers of technical environments, that is products and employees in standardization committees, how the fundamental questions in the selection and application of data of the human body dimensions (anthropometric data) can be answered and predictable misuse can be minimized. DIN SPEC 33402-6 has been prepared by Joint Working Committee NA 023-00-03 GA "Anthropometrie und Biomechanik" ("Anthropometry and biomechanics") at the Ergonomics Standards Committee (NAErg).
