This DIN SPEC (Technical Report) has been prepared by Working Committee NA 149-00-02 AA "Fotografische Geräte" ("Photographic equipment") of the Entertainment Technology, Photography and Cinematography Standards Committee at DIN. For this purpose no draft has been published. A DIN SPEC in accordance with a Technical Report method is the result of standardization work which has not yet been published as a standard by DIN due to certain provisos to the content or due to the preparation procedures deviating from a standard. This DIN SPEC (Technical Report) is applicable to the reliable testing of digital cameras. The recommendations of this DIN SPEC pursue two objectives: 1) Technical guide for the performance of tests: This guide provides users and manufacturers of test methods with an overview of important, meaningful and useful test criteria, procedures and assessment principles. By doing so it helps to avoid typical errors and to improve and ensure the significance and reliability of their methods. 2) Means for the assessment of test results: For the recipients and user of test results, particularly readers of magazines and manufacturers of digital cameras, there is currently no guide with the help of which they can evaluate the reliability and the practical significance, or even, in extreme cases, the reliability of the test results. This guide is to provide support in obtaining a more secure basis for the evaluation, interpretation, and, if applicable, discussion with the testers. For this purpose, it primarily serves increased transparency of these complex issues.
