In the event of a disaster or other significant danger to the population, immediate warning of the people affected is essential for them to be able to get to safety quickly or take other suitable measures. An acoustic, uniform warning and information signal, similar to the familiar siren signal, which can be easily heard by a wide range of people, is considered suitable for warning the population of danger, even at night if necessary. This warning and information signal serves as an attention signal and as a request to switch on radios or comparable information media (such as TV, Internet) in order to obtain further information in the event of a disaster or other significant hazards. As a prestandard, DIN 14600-1 specifies the acoustic parameters for a standardized warning and information signal for use in smoke alarms. All persons in the signal reception area are made aware of an incipient or existing hazardous situation by this warning and notification signal. Committee NA 031-02-14 AA "Signalgeber - SpA zu CEN/TC 72/WG 3" ("Alarm devices - mirror committee of CEN/TC 72/WG 3") at DIN is responsible for this prestandard.
