Overview

This Supplement provides calculation assistance for the assessment of risk for structures in accordance with DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2) both for physical damage to structures and life hazard (DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3)) and electrical and electronic systems within structures (DIN EN 62305-4 (VDE 0185-305-4)). The risk analysis procedure on the basis of a spreadsheet is used to determine the necessity of protection measures, its technical and economic optimization and to determine the residual risk when using a lightning protection system. Processing a large number of parameters and their mathematical linkage by means of equations is necessary for the assessment of the risk components and for carrying out the risk analysis in accordance with DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2). Such calculations will be difficult and will be prone to errors without the appropriate software support. The new edition of DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2) no longer includes any software due to the fact that there is no longer any software available with the new edition of IEC 62305-2. DKE Committee K 251, responsible for national standardization, has therefore decided to publish comprehensive software as a means of assistance to carry out calculations using EXCEL® table calculations with this Supplement 2. The advantages of this easy-to-use calculation assistance are the simple compilation of the parameters, the automatic linkage by means of table calculation as well as simultaneous calculation based on the equations of the standard. This allows a multitude of variants for planned or already applied protection measures to be quickly and easily calculated and compared. The default values in accordance with the standard are already available in the user interfaces of the software. Arbitrary parameter values based on the type of project and the selection of user without any restriction on the default values are also permitted, however. The printout of results contains a complete listing of all input parameters and results; reproducibility and testing can be ensured at any time. The conditions for the use of this calculation assistance on a PC include relevant application knowledge of table calculations and an existing installation of the Microsoft ® EXCEL® application programme. The responsible committee is DKE/K 251 "Blitzschutzanlagen und Blitzschutzbauteile" ("Lightning protection systems and lightning protection components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
