This supplement includes a guideline for users and manufacturers of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies according to IEC 61439. The series of standards IEC 61439 for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies covers system and application details which shall be specified by the user so that the manufacturer can manufacture a switchgear and controlgear assembly meeting the needs and expectations of the user. This guideline indicates the functions and characteristic values from the user's point of view which should be specified when specifying the switchgear and controlgear assemblies. It covers: - an explanation of the characteristics and options for switchgear and controlgear assemblies within the series of standards IEC 61439; - a guideline for the selection of appropriate option and the specification of the characteristics using a functional approach, so that the special application requirements are fulfilled; and - support in the specification of switchgear and controlgear assemblies. A reference within this guideline to characteristic features of interfaces of a switchgear and controlgear assembly and requirements to be met has been made on the assumption that the switchgear and controlgear assembly has been designed, manufactured and verified in accordance with the relevant part of the standard IEC 61439. The responsible body is DKE/UK 431.1 "Niederspannungs-Schaltgerätekombinationen" ("Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
