Overview

This part of IEC 60825 provides manufacturers, test facilities, security personnel and others with practical instructions for methods to carry out radiation measurements or analyses which determine emission levels of laser energy according to IEC 60825-1:2007. The measurement methods described in this Technical Report serve as a guideline for the classification of laser products in accordance with this standard. It provides information about the calculation of accessible emission limits (AEL) as well as the maximum permissible exposure (MPE), as some parameters are dependent on other measurands when calculating the limits. This document is intended to be used for lasers including extended sources and laser assemblies. Users of this document should be aware that, with regard to the conditions when dealing with extended sources, the methods described here indicate more restrictive results than the application of stricter methods. The responsible committee is Joint Committee GK 841 "Optische Strahlungssicherheit und Lasereinrichtungen" ("Optical radiation safety and laser equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
