This supplement includes the Technical Report CLC/TR 50173-99-3 and describes a grading system applicable to telecommunications cabling in homes and which provides a range of implementation solutions to support both non-simultaneous and simultaneous provision of applications incorporating: 1) a cabling infrastructure in accordance with (but less complex than) DIN EN 50173-4 with a defined connecting hardware pin assignment for certain applications; 2) components meeting or exceeding the requirements of DIN EN 50173-4; 3) shorter cabling channels than those specified in DIN EN 50173-4: simultaneous transmission of telephony and 100BASE-T is supported by the reduced channel attenuation resulting from the restriction of maximum channel lengths to 50 m. For this purpose, three home cabling infrastructure grades 1, 3 and 3S, realised with corresponding grades for balanced cabling infrastructure, are defined. Furthermore, cabling with optical fibre cables is permitted. Balanced cables, coaxial cables and optical fibre cables can be used as the network access cable. The responsible committee is GUK 715.3 "Informationstechnische Verkabelung von Gebäudekomplexen" ("Customer premises cabling for information technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
