To ensure the performance of the precast concrete elements, lifting and moving should be included in the design of the product. Lifting and moving inserts are used to lift and move the precast elements. These should have an adequate level of reliability. They should be able to withstand all actions and influences that may occur during execution and use. This Technical Report deals with lifting inserts that are embedded in precast concrete elements. The intention of this document is to provide information for specifiers of precast concrete products. The failure of lifting inserts for lifting and moving precast concrete units could endanger human life and/or result in significant economic consequences. Therefore, the lifting inserts should be properly selected and installed by qualified personnel according to the instructions for installation and use. This Technical Report, based on current practices, gives recommendations for the correct selection and design of lifting inserts on the basis of the resistance of their anchorage in the concrete. It is based on EN 1992-1-1 (Eurocode 2), EN 1993-1-1 (Eurocode 3), CEN/TS 1992-4-1 and on data published by the manufacturer. This document (CEN/TR 15728:2016) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 229 "Precast concrete products", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 005-07-08 AA "Betonfertigteile (Sp CEN/TC 229)" ("Precast concrete products (mirror committee of CEN/TC 229)") at DIN Standards Committee Building and Civil Engineering (NaBau).
