Overview

Cylindrical expansion joints, also known as rubber expansion joints, are indispensable for pipeline systems on vessels and submarines. Compared to the last edition (VG 95964-1:2009-11), this VG standard has been expanded to include Type P. Furthermore, the materials have been updated and consequently the title has also been amended. Cylindrical expansion joints are considered flexible connections used in assemblies for oils and fuels up to PN 10 and in assemblies for seawater (without additives) based on mineral oil up to PN 50. These compensators or the VG standard does not apply to or in aircraft. Basically the expansion joints are subject to type testing according to this standard. This standard has been prepared by the DIN Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Standards Committee (NSMT), Working Committee NA 132-02-09 AA "Kompensatoren" ("Expansion joints").
