Overview

This VG standard applies to the free traveller block used on vessels in the span-wire method according to VG 85485-1. An overview of definitions and explanations for the RAS method is documented in VG 85482. VG 85485 "Replenishment at sea - Span-wire method" consists of: Part 1: Overview and Part 2: Free traveller block. In a figure with associated table the main dimensions, loading capacity and the test force of the free traveller block are documented. The manufacturing process and the material shall be taken from the set of drawings from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr - BAAINBw). Each free traveller block shall be checked by a recognized classification society according to VG 85493, the Technical Specification also corresponds with VG 85493. This standard has been prepared by the DIN Standards Committee Shipbuilding and Marine Technology (NSMT), Working Committee NA 132-01-05 AA "Heben, Schleppen, Ankern" ("Heaving, towing, anchoring").
