This standard is applicable for enlarged stud links of Grade GL-K3 with the nominal sizes 16 to 90, which are used on board of vessels at ambient temperatures ≥ -20 °C. At ambient temperatures ≥ -20 °C the use of enlarged links of Grade GL-K4 according to DIN 81849 is recommended. Enlarged stud links according to VG 84530 are components of three link adapter pieces of Grade GL-K3 according to VG 84516 and slip stoppers of Grade GL-K3 according VG 84514. Extensive modifications have been made with respect to VG 84501:1998-03, for example, the nominal size series has been increased to 90, and calculation bases have been added in Annex A (informative). Within the framework of the revision of the standards on stud link anchor chain cables it has become absolutely necessary to prepare this standard in order to partly replace VG 84501:1998-03. This standard describes, in tabular form, the requirements, dimensions and masses for enlarged stud links of Grade GL-K3 at ambient temperatures of ≥ -20 °C. In Annex A (informative), the calculation bases were given. These calculation bases include the nominal size, diameter (common stud link), pitch, diameter (test calibre) as well as mass determination by calculation.
