This standard is applicable to grade GL-K3 outboard swivel shots used on vessels at ambient temperatures down to -20 °C. An outboard swivel shot according to this standard consists of a lashing link according to VG 84527, a certain number of common stud link according to VG 84529 and a swivel shackle according to VG 84536. So-called swivel shots are components of grade GL-K3 stud link anchor chains according to VG 84510. They are positioned between the anchor and the first shot of chain cable according to VG 84501. With respect to edition VG 84512:1998-03 the series of nominal sizes has been extended up to 90, the English term has been amended and lashing links have been included in VG 84527, amongst others. This VG standard gives the assembly, dimensions, masses, material, parts lists, lashing link positioning, material, mechanical properties, technical specification and a designation example of the "outboard swivel shots". The committee responsible for this VG standard is NA 132-01-05 AA "Heben, Schleppen, Ankern" ("Heaving, towing, anchoring").
