This standard is applicable for protective insulating devices intended for work on electrically energized systems up to 1 000 V a.c. (rms) or 1 500 V d.c. or in their vicinity. This standard is not applicable for permanently installed protective insulating devices that are part of an electrical installation. This standard is used for all fittings that are not covered by the scope of DIN EN 61229 (VDE 0682-551) "Rigid protective covers for live working on a.c. installations" or DIN EN 61479 (VDE 0682-513) "Flexible conductor covers (line hoses) of insulating material". These internationally non-standardized insulating devices are self-adhesive plastic tapes, enclosures, concertina covers, fittings and clips. With respect to DIN 57680-1 (VDE 0680-1):1983-01 and the authorized draft standard E DIN VDE 0680-1 (VDE 0680-1):1990-05, the standard has been completely revised and the personal protective equipment has been deleted due to the fact that international standards have been prepared for this purpose. For the selection and application of the protective insulating devices for work on electrically energized systems or in their vicinity, DIN EN 50110-1 (VDE 0105-1) applies. The responsible committee is UK 214.3 "Ausrüstungen und Geräte zum Arbeiten unter Spannung; Körperschutzmittel und schmiegbare Schutzvorrichtungen" ("Equipment and apparatus for work on electrically energized system; personnel protective equipment and moulded protective devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN 57680-1:1983-01; DIN VDE 0680-1:1983-01; VDE 0680-1:1983-01 .
