This standard shall be applied to devices for mounting and connection (BKE) of electronic meters for plug-in electronic meters (eHz) for household use, on meter panels with a specific contact arrangement, a rated voltage not exceeding AC 400 V and a rated current not exceeding 63 A, for use on meter panels according to DIN 43870, or similar installations. The specification of the rated current is based on practical experience relating to the operational working load of meter panels for household use (according to DIN 18015-1, graph 1 in Figure 1). The meter panel and the integrated equipment are dimensioned accordingly. The commissioning and de-commissioning of the downstream consumer installation via the BKE shall be performed load-free. Annex A specifies the requirements and tests for BKE for outdoor use. Annex B specifies the requirements and tests for BKE intended for use in existing installations and for those which, in conjunction with smart metering, provide room for eHZ applications. This standard differs from DIN V VDE V 0603-5 (VDE V 0603-5):2010-11 as follows: - BKE for outdoor use have been added; - single-phase BKE is added in Annex C. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 543.1 "Installationskleinverteiler und Zählerplätze" ("Consumer distribution boards and meter panels") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
