The purpose of this standard is to achieve a satisfactory service life for conductors and insulation due thermal effects generated by electricity flowing over a longer period during normal operation. This standard applies to the current-carrying capacity of insulated power installations in accordance with the standards of the DIN VDE 0250 (VDE 0250) series, the standards of the VDE 0283 series, the standards of the DIN EN 50525 series (VDE 0285-525), the standards of the DIN EN 60702 series (VDE 0284). It is also applicable for cables in accordance with DIN VDE 0276-603 (VDE 0276-603), DIN VDE 0276-604 (VDE 0276-604), DIN VDE 0262 (VDE 0262) and in accordance with DIN VDE 0266 (VDE 0266) for wirings in and around buildings. The current-carrying capacities for in-ground cables listed in this standard are only applicable for wirings in and around buildings. For other installations for which more precise information regarding load-dependent soil resistance is available, the current-carrying capacities should be derived from DIN VDE 0276-603 (VDE 0276-603) or by calculation in accordance with IEC 60287. The following essential modifications have been made with respect to DIN VDE 0298-4 (VDE 0298-4):2003-08: a) Information on capacity for insulated power conductors has been adopted from HD 60364-5-52:2011. b) A new subclause 4.7 regarding single-core metallic screened cables has been included. c) Slight changes regarding the design of cables/conductors when harmonic components are available. d) Reference installation type D1 "Installation in Electrical Installation Conduit or in a Cable Duct Laid Underground" has been adopted, direct installation underground is still specified in the associated standards for cable types. e) The overview of the cable and conductor types has been updated and adapted to the DIN EN 50525 (VDE 0285-525) series. f) Information on capacity in Table 4 has been revised. g) The current-carrying capacities for large nominal cross-sectional areas have been supplemented in accordance with HD 60364-5-52:2011. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 411.2 "Isolierte Starkstromleitungen" ("Insulated cables, wires and flexible cords for power installation") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
