This part of the DIN VDE 0100 (VDE 0100) standard series applies for the earthing arrangements and protective conductor, including protective bonding conductors, in order to satisfy the safety of the electrical installation. The following significant modifications have been made with respect to DIN VDE 0100-540 (VDE 0100-540):2007-06: a) term "foundation earth electrode" has been newly defined. A distinction is now made between: - 541.3.4 "concrete-embedded foundation earth electrode" - 541.3.5 "soil-embedded foundation earth electrode"; b) the following clauses have been incorporated: - 542.1.5 "Consideration of high-frequency currents", - 542.1.6 "Modification of the grounding resistance due to corrosion, dehydration and frost"; c) requirements for "protective conductor connections and terminals" have been supplemented; d) the treatment of PEN, PEL or PEM conductors is described in more detail; e) informative national Annex NA "Overview of the conductors in connection with equipotential bonding and earthing". The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 221.1 "Schutz gegen elektrischen Schlag" ("Protection against electric shock") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Informational Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
