This standard contains requirements for protection of active conductors and, thus, of cables and lines regarding the effects of overcurrent and describes how active conductors are to be protected in cases of overload and short-circuiting through one or more installations for the automatic disconnection of the power supply. Safety coordination during overload and short-circuiting is also dealt with. With respect to DIN VDE 0100-430 (VDE 0100-430):1991-11, the following essential changes have been made: a) addition of new informative Annexes A and B; b) information regarding flexible cables/lines has been added to the Scope; c) addition of requirements for overload detection in neutral conductors for harmonic currents; d) addition of requirements that installations for protection against short-circuit currents shall be able to disconnect short-circuit currents and, in the case of circuit breakers, also connect; e) expansion of requirements for protection against overcurrent of parallel switched conductors; f) expansion of requirements when installations for protection against overload currents do not need to be provided; g) insertion of further examples where installations for protection against overcurrent may not be necessary; h) expansion of requirements when installations for protection against short-circuit do not need to be provided; i) addition of requirements for short-circuit rated currents of busbar trunking systems; j) adjustment of the formal structure/clause numbering to the currently valid standards of the groups 100 to 600 of the series DIN VDE 0100 (VDE 0100); k) update of references. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 221.2 "Schutz gegen thermische Auswirkungen/Sachschutz" ("Protection against thermal effects/property protection") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN VDE 0100-430:1991-11; VDE 0100-430:1991-11 .
