DIN ISO 4347:2011-07

The new standard DIN ISO 4347 specifies the characteristics of chains used for general lifting purposes, together with the rim profiles of sheaves and the dimensions of the clevises. This standard specifies: dimensions, limits for interchangeability, length measurement, preloading and minimum tensile strengths. Working Committee NA 060-34-35 AA "Stahlgelenkketten" ("Steel link chains") of Technical Section Antriebstechnik (Power transmission engineering) of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee has decided to translate ISO 4347 and therewith to adopt it into the German body of standards, whereby the respective German standards have been withdrawn. The International Standard ISO 4347 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 100 "Chains and chain wheels for power transmission and conveyors". DIN ISO 4347 is a translation of the fourth edition of ISO 4347:2004 and will replace DIN 8152, Part 1 to Part 4. The following amendments have been made with respect to DIN 8152-1, DIN 8152-2, DIN 8152-3 and DIN 8152-4: - dimensions have been slightly changed; - term "breaking force" has been changed into "tensile strength"; - values for tensile strengths have been amended; - width between the outer plates has been incorporated; - information about material has been deleted; - measuring lengths and measuring forces for length validation have been amended; - types for clevises have been expanded; - dimensions of clevises and sheaves have been slightly amended; - for chains of the heavy series LH, the 8 × 8 lacing has not been standardized any longer; - information on mass and bearing area has been deleted. The national interests during the preparation of the standard are represented by Committee NA 060-34-35 AA "Stahlgelenkketten" ("Steel link chains") of Technical section "Antriebstechnik" ("Power transmission engineering") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the manufacturers and users of steel link chains are involved in the preparation of the standard.
