This part of the ISO 3864 and/or DIN ISO 3864 series of standards establishes additional principles to Part 1 for the design of safety labels for products. The purpose of a product safety label is to alert persons to a specific hazard and to identify how the hazard can be avoided. This standard is applicable to all products in all industries where safety-related questions can be posed. However, it is not applicable to safety labels used - for chemicals, - for the transport of dangerous substances and preparations, and - in those sectors subject to legal regulations which differ from certain provisions of this document. When applying this standard, national legislation shall be observed, which, for example, provides for legally prescribed safety labels for chemical substances, preparations and products. The representation of different degrees of risk on product safety labels is common in the US, but not in Germany, because the legal regulations do not provide for this. The national comments contained in the standard text, which provide information on the application of the standard, shall also be observed. The DIN ISO 3864 series of standards consists of the following parts under the main title "Graphical symbols - Safety colors and safety signs": - Part 1: "Design principles for safety signs and safety markings", - Part 2: "Design principles for safety signs for application on products", - Part 3: "Design principles for graphical symbols for use in safety signs". The International Standard ISO 3864-2 has been prepared at ISO/TC 145/SC 2 "Graphical symbols - Safety identification, signs, shapes, symbols and colours" with significant participation by German experts. The responsible committee at the national level is Joint Working Committee NA 095-01-06 GA "Sicherheitskennzeichnung" ("Safety identification") of Standards Committee Safety Design Principles (NASG).
