In designing and operating balancing machines, efforts already are made to minimize hazards arising from the use of the machines themselves. Special-purpose balancing machines, for example, those used in the mass production automotive industry, normally incorporate all necessary protective measures because the workpiece, as well as the operating conditions of the machine, are known. For multipurpose balancing machines, however, where the workpieces to be balanced are generally unknown to the machine manufacturer, and are thus beyond his control. Since this standard deals with balancing machines and protective measures in general, no details of the risk can be stated for specific rotor types and balancing machines. This standard specifies requirements for enclosures and other protective measures used to minimize mechanical hazards produced by the rotor in the unbalance measuring station of centrifugal (rotational) balancing machines. This standard gives the significant hazards, the safety requirements and protective measures to prevent hazards and procedures for verification of these requirements or protective measures. This standard defines different classes of protection that enclosures and other protective measures provide and describes the limits of applicability for each class of protection. The International Standard ISO 21940-23:2012 "Mechanical vibration - Rotor balancing - Part 23: Enclosures and other protective measures for the measuring station of balancing machines" has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 108 "Mechanical vibration, shock and condition monitoring", Subcommittee SC 2 "Measurement and evaluation of mechanical vibration and shock as applied to machines, vehicles and structures", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. Regarding the German collaboration, the committee responsible for the preparation is NA 001-03-06-01 (NALS/VDI C 6.1) "Auswuchten und Auswuchtmaschinen" ("Balancing and balancing machines") of the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS) at DIN and VDI. This standard differs from DIN ISO 7475:2004-04 as follows: a) the number of the standard has been changed; b) protection class 0 has been deleted; c) the standard has been editorially revised and aligned with respect to the current terminology.
This document replaces DIN ISO 7475:2004-04 .
