This part of ISO 18436 specifies the requirements for the qualification (including training and relevant experience) and the assessment of personnel performing vibration analysis (VA) for the condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines. A certificate or declaration of conformity to the requirements of this standard in accordance with ISO 18436-1 enables acceptance and provides recognition and evidence that individuals are qualified and able to perform vibration measurements and analysis for machinery condition monitoring using vibration measurement systems. This part of ISO 18436 specifies a four-category classification programme that is based on the technical areas delineated herein. A programme, operated by an assessment body, has been developed to train and assess the competence of personnel whose duties require the appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge and relevant experience in VA for machinery condition monitoring and diagnostics. In German, a differentiation is made between "Qualifizierung": Process of demonstrating whether an entity (activity or process, product, organization, or any combination thereof) is capable of fulfilling specified requirements and "Qualifikation": Demonstration of personal attributes, education, training and/or work experience. Both terms in English are "Qualification". The International Standard ISO 18436-2:2014 "Condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines - Requirements for qualification and assessment of personnel - Part 2: Vibration condition monitoring and diagnostics" has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 108 "Mechanical vibration, shock and condition monitoring", Subcommittee SC 5 "Condition monitoring and diagnostics of machine systems", the secretariat of which is held by ANSI (USA). The German collaboration was effected by Committee NA 001-03-06-05 (NALS/VDI C 6.5) "Schwingungsüberwachung" ("Vibration monitoring").
