The standard DIN ISO 1275 specifies the requirements for double-pitch precision roller chains suitable for the mechanical transmission of power and for conveyors, together with those for their associated sprockets. It covers dimensions, tolerances, length measurements, preloading and minimum tensile strengths. These double-pitch chains have been derived from some of the short-pitch transmission precision roller chains covered by ISO 606 having certain common dimensions but of double the pitch. The chains are intended for use under less onerous conditions with respect to speed and power transmitted than the comparable chains according to ISO 606. The translation of ISO 4347 and thus the adaptation into the German body of standards with the withdrawal of the corresponding German standards has been prepared by Working Committee NA 060-34-35 "Stahlgelenkketten" ("Steel link chains") of Technical Section Antriebstechnik (Power transmission engineering) of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee. The one-off changeover is faced by sustainable cost savings due to the omission of additional national standards for the same chain types. The International Standard ISO 4347 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 100 "Chains and chain wheels for power transmission and conveyors". This first edition of DIN ISO 1275 replaces DIN 8181 and DIN 8196-2. This standard differs from DIN 8181 and DIN 8196-2 as follows: a) the scope (1) has been rendered more precise; b) marking of the chains has been specified in the standard; c) the tensile testing has been given in more detail (3.4); d) some variables for the definition of the chain dimensions have been modified; figures and text have been adjusted accordingly; e) all chain dimensions, except for the chain pitch, distance between inner plates, width over bearing pin and extended pin length for connecting link have been slightly modified; f) specifications relating to the bearing surface and weight per metre have been deleted; g) lower values of minimum tensile strength and measuring force have been specified; h) specifications regarding materials are no longer included; i) specifications for conveyor chains have been included. This includes, amongst others, nomenclature, length validation, dimensions and attachments; j) some variables for the definition of the sprocket dimensions have been modified; k) the tolerances of the root diameter have been specified in more detail; l) the tooth side relief has been modified; m) the tooth side radius has been changed to 0,5 p; n) a specification of the shroud fillet radius is no longer included; o) the marking of the sprockets has been supplemented by the ISO chain number. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-34-35 AA "Stahlgelenkketten" ("Steel link chains") of the Technical Section "Antriebstechnik" ("Power transmission engineering") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of steel link chains contributed to the preparation of the standard.
