Overview

This technical report provides recommendations for the integration of secure alarm forwarding in hospitals and nursing homes. A distinction is made between reliable alarm transmissions, informative alarm transmissions and transmission of information signals. The hospital shall determine which degree of reliability the alarm or information transmission is to ensure. An internal risk management according to DIN EN 80001-1 is the basis for decision making. The maximum total response time when an alarm occurs that is triggered by a medical electrical device until the cause is clarified at the patient is the decisive factor for treatment of the patient. By using distributed alarm systems the competent nursing staff is informed in a targeted manner. The responsible subcommittee is DKE/UK 811.3 "Sicherheit von medizinisch genutzten Geräten/Systemen/Einrichtungen in der vernetzten Anwendung" ("Safety of medical devices/systems/facilities for network applications") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN.
