The competence, impartiality and consistent operation of laboratories are regulated in DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. The users of the standard include laboratories of all sizes, as well as their customers and accreditation and certification bodies which may use DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 to verify and demonstrate the competence of laboratories. This standard is part of the ISO/IEC 17000 series of standards for conformity assessment. In addition to specific requirements for laboratories, it also contains general text modules that are repeated throughout the entire ISO/IEC 17000 series of standards. This concerns, for example, the requirements for impartiality, confidentiality, handling of complaints and management. DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 will replace DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005-08. The standard represents a comprehensive revision. The scope has been streamlined and the entire structure of the standard revised. In addition, a consideration of risks and opportunities has been added. Impartiality and confidentiality have been emphasized more strongly. The competence of the personnel has been emphasized. Deputies for key positions are no longer prescribed. The requirements for metrological traceability and quality assurance have been extended. Laboratories that meet this standard will generally also work in accordance with the principles of ISO 9001. The standard contains corresponding requirements for the management of laboratories. The responsible committee for this standard is NA 147-00-03 AA "Zertifizierungsgrundlagen (Grundlagen zur Konformitätsbewertung)" ("Basic principles for certification (Basic principles for conformity assessment)") at DIN.
