The design of the dental workplace shall be based on ergonomic measures. Stabile and comfortable positioning of the patient at the dental practice is important. A healthy posture of each member of the dental practice staff is even more important. Modern dental units can come close to the physiological optimum by consistent approaches for all persons involved. This part of ISO 7494 specifies requirements and test methods for dental units, regardless of whether or not they are electrically powered. It also contains requirements for the manufacturer's instructions, marking and packaging. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 6/WG 2 "Dental patient chair and dental unit" (secretariat: DIN), together with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The committee responsible for this standard at DIN is Working Committee NA 014-00-05 AA "Zahnärztliche Ausrüstung" ("Dental equipment") of NADENT.
