Overview

This International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 170 "Surgical instruments" (Secretariat: DIN) together with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible Working Committee at DIN is NA 014-00-23 AA "Dentalmedizinische Instrumente" ("Dental medical instruments") of NADENT. The standard specifies requirements and test methods for the metallic materials commonly used in the manufacture of various standardized surgical instruments, including those used in general surgery, orthopaedics and dentistry. While this document is not intended for surgical instruments used in special applications, such as implantology and minimally invasive surgery, parts of it might be applicable to those instruments.
