The text of ISO 3923-1:2008 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 119 "Powder metallurgy" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been adopted as EN ISO 3923-1:2010. The responsible German Committee is Working Committee NA 145-01-02 AA "Probenahme und Prüfverfahren für Hartmetalle" ("Sampling and testing methods for hardmetals)") of the Technology of Material Standards Committee (NWT). This part of ISO 3923 specifies the funnel method for the determination of the apparent density of metallic powders under specified conditions. The method is intended for metallic powders that flow freely through a 2,5 mm diameter orifice. It may, however, be used for powders that flow with difficulty through a 2,5 mm diameter orifice but flow freely through a 5 mm diameter orifice. Methods for the determination of the apparent density of powders that will not flow through a 5 mm diameter orifice are specified in ISO 3923-2. With respect to DIN ISO 3923-1:1980-06, Figure 3 regarding the arrangement of the stand with funnel and cup has been added, an alternative cup diameter has been added, the accuracy requirements for the balance to be used have been raised, the minimum volume of the test sample in 6.1 has been formulated as a requirement, the as-received condition of the powder in 6.2 has been formulated as a recommendation, clause 9 regarding precision has been added, the normative references have been updated and the standard has been editorially revised.
