This standard specifies the particular requirements for measurement of vibration emission at the handles of straight grinders. It is not applicable to grinders used with wire brushes, nor to die grinders. The standard deals exclusively with straight grinders; further types of grinders, see DIN EN ISO 28927-1 "Angle and vertical grinders", DIN EN ISO 28927-3 "Polishers and rotary, orbital and random orbital sanders", DIN EN ISO 28927-12 "Die grinders". This standard describes a laboratory method for measuring hand-transmitted vibration emission at the handles of straight grinders. Therewith, this standard supports essential requirements of the Machinery Directive. The following amendments have been made with respect to DIN EN ISO 8662-4:1995-06: a) only straight grinders are dealt with; b) measurement of the vibrations in three coordinate axes and at both hand positions; c) use of new transducer locations; d) revised specifications of the directions of measurement; e) speed has been increased to no-load speed; f) test wheels have been modified and determined more precisely. The International Standard ISO 28927-4 has been prepared by ISO/TC 118/SC 3 "Pneumatic tools and machines", in collaboration with CEN/TC 231 "Mechanical vibration and shock". The responsible German committee is NA 001-03-07-02 (NALS/VDI C 7.2) "Hand-Arm-Schwingungen" ("Hand-arm vibration").
