Overview

The operation of machines can cause mechanical hand-arm vibrations that can affect the operator's well-being, performance and, under certain circumstances, health and safety. The standard DIN EN ISO 28927-1 from the year 2010 is used to determine the vibration emission values of hand-held motor-driven angle and vertical grinders. It determines the characteristic values of hand-arm vibrations at the gripping points of the machine generated by various tools during grinding, cut-off grinding and roughing. The measurements are carried out using replacement grinding wheels made of aluminum with a defined imbalance. The vibration transducers are positioned close to the hand (between thumb and index finger) so that they disturb the operator gripping the machine as little as possible. Measurements are taken in three coordinate directions at all measuring points. The measurement method of this document (classified as a type C standard in accordance with DIN EN ISO 12100) is therefore based on the corresponding higher-level type B standard DIN EN ISO 20643, and the vibration characteristics measured in this manner meet the requirements of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. In addition to definitions of terms and the description of the machine group covered by this part of the series of standards, including the exact measuring points for the various machine types, the standard also specifies requirements for measuring equipment and the operating conditions during measurement. Furthermore, the execution of the measurement and requirements for the measurement report are specified. Various annexes include considerations on measurement uncertainty, the design of the various replacement grinding wheels and the relationship between the standard and the safety requirements of the EC Machinery Directive. Amendment A1 of the standard extends the scope of application to the use of angle and vertical grinders with cup-shaped wire brushes as insert tools. These were expressly excluded up to now. For this purpose, an additional replacement grinding wheel is specified in normative Annex C, the defined imbalance of which is realized with the aid of a calibration screw. Furthermore, when using machines with wire brushes, a newly defined correction factor is used for the vibration characteristic value to be specified. The international standard on which this German standard is based and its international amendment have been prepared by ISO/TC 118/SC 3 "Pneumatic tools and machines" in collaboration with CEN/TC 231 CEN/TC 231 "Mechanical vibration and shock". CEN has adopted these international documents unchanged as a European Standard and European Amendment. For the publication of the German standard, the international/European amendment has been incorporated into the text. The responsible German committee is Subcommittee NA 001-03-07-02 UA "Hand-arm vibrations" in Working Committee NA 001-03-07 AA "Schwingungseinwirkung auf den Menschen" ("Human exposure to vibration").
