The standard specifies requirements and test methods for laser welding, in the dental laboratory, of materials suitable for use in metallic restorations and appliances. The standard describes the chemical composition, the limits for hazardous elements, biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of a laser-welded joint (tensile strength). It also specifies the requirements for the instructions, marking and labelling. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 2/WG 14 "Brazing materials" (secretariat: DIN), in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). At DIN the responsible Working Group is NA 014-00-17-07 AK "Fügetechniken für metallische Werkstoffe" ("Adherend technics for metallic materials") of Working Committee NA 014-00-17 AA "Metalle" ("Metallic materials") of NADENT.
