Manoeuvring is probably the most important safety function of a boat. More and more electronic systems are used in this area. This standard is intended to help designers and manufacturers of electrical/electronic control systems, machine manufacturers and test institutes by specifying uniform requirements for the construction, type and testing of electric/electronic control systems for steering, shift and throttle as well as of dynamic position control systems. This standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission to provide one means of conforming to Essential Requirements of the New Approach Directive 94/25/EC as amended by Directive 2003/44/EC. It provides manufacturers and purchasers of water craft with legal security by the highest presumption of conformity with regard to the relevant part of the legal requirements. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 132-08-01-05 AK "ISO/TC 188/WG 5 Motoren und Antriebssysteme" ("ISO/TC 188/WG 5 Engine and propulsive systems") at DIN.
