This standard specifies a vibration test code for determining, under standardized conditions, the magnitude of vibration at the handles of the following portable hand-held, internal-combustion-engine powered forest and garden machinery: chain-saws, brush-cutters (scrub-cutters), grass-trimmers (lawn-trimmers), pole-mounted powered pruners, hedge-trimmers, and garden-blowers and vacuums. It describes a laboratory measurement method for determination of the vibration characteristics (vibration emission characteristics), which shall be given in the operating instructions. The standard supports the essential requirements of the Machinery Directive therewith. See also DIN EN ISO 10517 for details regarding the determination of the vibration emission characteristics of hedge trimmers and DIN EN ISO 11680 for pole-mounted powered pruners. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN ISO 22867:2009-01: a) the scope of the standard has been extended to include pole-mounted powered pruners, hedge trimmers, garden blowers and vacuums; b) vibrations are measured in three axes and at both hand positions; c) new locations for the vibration transducers have been specified. The International Standard ISO 22867:2011, which forms the basis of this standard, has been prepared by ISO/TC 23 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry" in cooperation with CEN/TC 144 of the same name. The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 001-03-07-02 (NALS/VDI C 7.2) "Hand-Arm-Schwingungen" ("Hand-transmitted vibration") of the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS).
