This International Standard for Business Continuity Management Systems provides guidance based on internationally accepted practices for planning, establishing, implementing, performing, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining, and continuously improving a documented management system that enables organizations to prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents after they occur. This standard provides recommendations for organizations on how to design a BCMS to meet the needs of the organization and satisfy stakeholder requirements. These needs are shaped by legal, regulatory, organizational, and industry requirements, by the products and services, the processes used, the operating environment, the size and structure of the organization, and the requirements of stakeholders. This International Standard is a generic standard and applies to all sizes and types of organizations, including large, medium, and small organizations operating in the industrial, commercial, public, and non-profit sectors that a) wish to establish, implement, maintain, and improve a BCMS, b) wish to ensure compliance with an organization's guidance on maintaining operational capability, or c) wish to establish their own compliance statement or declaration of conformity using this International Standard. This International Standard is not intended to be used to assess an organization’s ability to meet its own business continuity needs, or any customer, legal or regulatory needs.
