This document specifies methods for the determination of the consistency of dense castables and is applicable to all types of dense regular castables, dense deflocculated castables and insulating castables to determine the liquid addition necessary for preparing test pieces according to DIN ISO 1927-5. The amount of water used in a castable mix for preparing test pieces has a significant influence on the test results. Excess water can reduce strength, increase shrinkage, and can cause sedimentation; insufficient moisture can give voids due to poor compaction, with subsequent lower density and strength. ISO 1927-4 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 33 "Refractories" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been adopted as EN ISO 1927-4 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 187 "Refractory products and materials", the secretariat of which is held by BSI (United Kingdom). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 062-02-57 AA "Ungeformte, dichte geformte und wärmedämmende feuerfeste Erzeugnisse und Werkstoffe" ("Unshaped, dense shaped and insulating refractory products and materials") at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN 1402-4:2004-01 .
