This Amendment defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This document contains the safety requirements and measures to reduce the risks associated with woodworking machines that arise from operation, adjustment, maintenance, transport, assembly, disassembly, dismantling and scrapping and that are common to the machines used in the woodworking industry. It is applicable to stationary and movable woodworking machines when used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the other parts of ISO 19085 that are applicable to specific types of machines. It does not apply to machines intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres or to machines manufactured before the date of its publication. This standard includes the German version of EN ISO 19085-1:2017 prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 39 "Machine Tools", Subcommittee 4 "Woodworking machines" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The standard differs from DIN EN 691-1:2013-01 as follows: a) The standard has been thoroughly updated, restructured and adapted to the state of the art; b) Clause 5 (Safety requirements and/or measures) has been split into three clauses: Clause 5 (Safety requirements and measures for control systems), Clause 6 (Safety requirements and measures for protection against mechanical hazards) and Clause 7 (Safety requirements and measures for protection against other hazards); the new clauses have been reorganized; Clause 5 contains requirements for additional control functions; c) Clause 8.3 has been split into two clauses with general information applicable to all machines in the scope of the standards series and additional information applicable only to certain machines; d) new informative Annex A with a brief summary of the required Performance Level (PLr) for all safety functions; e) informative Annex E has been omitted without replacement; f) informative Annex F has been omitted without replacement; the information from the Annex is incorporated into the subsequent parts of DIN EN ISO 19085-2 ff. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-06-01 AA "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen - Sicherheit" ("Woodworking machines - Safety") of Technical Section "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen" ("Woodworking machines") at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of woodworking machines, and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
