This standard has been developed under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association to provide a means of meeting the requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive under the new approach of EC Directive 94/25/EC as amended in 2003/44/EC. The project was initiated to develop a standard that can be harmonised under the planned revision of the Recreational Craft Directive. This standard applies to small craft with a hull length of up to 24 m and specifies the requirements of the aforementioned Directive for recreational craft with regard to the measurement of exhaust emissions from reciprocating internal combustion engines. It gives manufacturers and buyers of boats legal certainty through the highest presumption of conformity with the legal requirements. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 132-08-01-05 AK "Motoren und Antriebssysteme (Sp ISO/TC 188/SC 2)" ("National committee for ISO/TC 188/SC 2 Engines and propulsion systems") at DIN.
