This standard specifies requirements and their test methods for metallic and non-metallic intraoral spatulas used to introduce and model filling materials into a tooth cavity, including single use disposable items. This includes instruments used for placement and contouring of non-metallic direct restorative materials. The International Standard ISO 18556 has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 4/WG 8 "Dental hand instruments" (secretariat: ANSI, USA), in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). At DIN the responsible Working Committee is NA 014-00-23 AA "Dentalmedizinische Instrumente" ("Dental medical instruments") of NADENT. The standard specifies requirements and test methods for the materials used, the maximum permissible total length, surface polishing, resistance to reprocessing. The required information for marking (for example, indication of the lot number) is also specified.
