Quick opening valves are used wherever a large amount of gas from gas bottles shall be provided more rapidly than with normal gas cylinder valves. Typically such valves are used for example in stationary fire extinguishing units or in rescue areas, for example, avalanche airbags, or for life raft inflation. Quick provision of large amounts of gas at high pressure as well as the special types of construction (for example, only single opening with an awl) require a distinction between usual gas cylinder valves according to DIN EN ISO 10297. Based on DIN EN ISO 10297 and DIN EN ISO 14246, this standard specifies additional or differing requirements for such valves. The application is thereby not limited to valves for gas cylinders for non-toxic, non-oxidizing, and non-corrosive compressed or liquefied gases or extinguishing agents charged with compressed gases to be used for fire-extinguishing, explosion protection, and rescue applications. The standard does not apply to cryogenic applications, for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or portable fire extinguishers (for example, according to EN 3). An introduction of the standard for inclusion into the international dangerous goods regulations is aimed at. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 016-00-03 AA "Druckgasflaschen und Ausrüstung; Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 23 und ISO/TC 58" ("Transportable gas cylinders and equipment; National mirror committee to CEN/TC 23 and ISO/TC 58") at DIN.
