The standard specifies the compositions of filler metals used for brazing. These filler metals are divided into seven classes related to their composition, but not necessarily to the major element present. In the case of composite products, such as flux-coated rods, pastes or plastic tapes, the standard covers only the filler metal that forms part of such products. Although the melting ranges are given in the tables, they may vary within the compositional range of the filler metal and are only regarded as approximate. Therefore, the melting range specifications are not part of the requirements and are given only as information. Technical delivery conditions are given for brazing filler metals and for products containing brazing filler metals with other constituents such as flux and/or binders. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 44/WG 3 and has been adopted identically by CEN/TC 121/SC 8 "Brazing". The responsible German standardization committee is Joint Committee NA 092-00-26 AA "Hartlöten und Hochtemperaturlöten (DVS AG V 6.1)") ("Brazing (DVS AG V 6.1)") at NAS.
