This standard contains requirements for classification of tubular flux and metal cored electrodes and rods, for gas shielded and non-gas shielded metal arc welding of stainless and heat-resisting steels. The classification is based on the all-weld metal chemical composition, the type of electrode core, shielding gas, welding position and the all-weld metal mechanical properties, in the as-welded or heat-treated conditions. The standard has been prepared by applying the cohabitation principle, that means, two approaches, which are subdivided into A and B, are specified for the same subject to be standardized. Approach A mainly reflects the European specifications; approach B mainly reflects the specifications in the Pacific Rim. It shall be noted that it shall be laid down according to which approach (A or B) products shall be manufactured or supplied before this standard is applied. The International Standard ISO 17633:2010 has been prepared by ISO/TC 44/SC 3 "Welding consumables" and has been adopted identically as a European Standard. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 092-00-03 AA "Schweißzusätze (DVS AG W 5)" ("Welding consumables (DVS AG W 5)") of NAS.
