This document (EN ISO 17076-1:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 289 "Leather", the secretariat of which is held by UNI (Italy), in collaboration with the "International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies". The responsible national committee is Working Committee NA 062-05-51 AA "Anforderungen und physikalische Prüfverfahren für Leder und seine Ausgangsprodukte" ("Requirements and physical test methods of leather and ..."), Mirror Committee of CEN/TC "Leather" of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN. This part of ISO 17076 specifies a method of determining the abrasion resistance of leather using a Taber apparatus. The test piece is rotated on a vertical axis against the sliding rotation of two abrading wheels which are pressed against the test piece with a specified force. One abrading wheel rubs the test piece outwards towards the periphery, the other inwards to the centre. Any damage to the test piece is noted along with any change in colour. This method is also referred to as the "Taber Test". This standard differs from DIN EN 14327:2004-03 as follows: a) adoption into an International Standard; b) the text has been editorially revised.
This document replaces DIN EN 14327:2004-03 .
