DIN EN ISO 16484-5 provides a communication method with which building automation and control equipment can exchange information amongst one another, independent of the technical building system to which they belong. The protocol specified in this standard can be universally applied for the data exchange of equipment and systems in building automation and control for both general use as well as for user-specific solutions. This part of ISO 16484 specifies data communication services and protocols for equipment used for monitoring and control of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) and other building systems. This part defines, in addition, an abstract, object-oriented representation of information communicated between such equipment, thereby facilitating the application and use of digital control technology in buildings. The scope and field of application are furthermore detailed in Clause 2 of the enclosed ANSI/ASHRAE publication. The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 041-03-68 AA "Gebäudeautomation und -kommunikation (SpA CEN/TC 247/WG 4)" ("Building automation and communication (Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 247/WG 4)") at the Heating and Ventilation Technology Standards Committee (NHRS).
