Part 1 of ISO 16396 – Plastics establishes a system of designation for polyamide (PA) moulding and extrusion materials, which can be used as the basis for specifications.
About the standard
The classification system for polyamide plastics is based on the viscosity number and tensile modulus of elasticity, and also on information on composition, intended application and/or method of processing, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers, and reinforcing materials.
The designation system is applicable to all polyamide homopolymers, copolymers, and blends.
It applies to unmodified materials ready for normal use and materials modified, for example, by colorants, additives, fillers, reinforcing materials, and polymer modifiers.
What has changed?
The standard takes the place of DIN EN ISO 1874-1:2011-03. The data block system has been simplified and now bears more relationship to DIN EN ISO 1043, Plastics – Symbols and abbreviated terms, and DIN EN ISO 11469, Plastics – Generic identification and marking of plastics products.
