Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so called presumption of conformity). This part of ISO 16231 specifies principles for the assessment of stability with respect to the design and construction of self-propelled ride-on machines used in agriculture and the hazard of rolling over or tipping over, or both, when the machine is used as intended and under the conditions foreseeable by the manufacturer. In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. This part of ISO 16231 is not applicable to: - machines with an unladed mass lower than 400 kg; - machines covered by other machine specific standards dealing with the protection against rollover and tip-over (for example agricultural tractors, forestry tractors); - hazards associated with road transport operations; - free fall events of machines; - rollover as a result of impact collisions. This part of ISO 16231 is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication. This standard contains the German version of EN ISO 16231-1:2013 which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 23 "Tractors and agricultural and forestry machinery" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 144 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). During the preparation of the standard, the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-16-30 AA "Landtechnik - Einzelthemen" ("Agricultural engineering - Individual issues") of Technical Section "Agricultural engineering" of the Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties were involved in the preparation of this standard.
