The ISO 16120-1 to -4 series of standards specifies requirements for non-alloy steel wire rod intended for drawing and/or cold rolling. The revision of the 2011 versions was decided in International Standards Committee ISO/TC 17/SC 17 "Steel wire rod and wire products" with the aim of adapting the technical content of the standards to market requirements. The current revision concerns: Part 1: General requirements, Part 2: Special requirements for general purpose wire rod Part 4: Special requirements for wire rod for special applications, of the aforementioned series of standards. All three parts listed above are being revised in the ISO/CEN parallel procedure. The future versions of the ISO standards will thus be adopted as European standards without changes. The responsible European standardization committee is ECISS/C 106 "Wire rod and wires". The most important changes are: revision of the specifications for the deviations in tensile strengths in the wire rod and the inclusion of a new clause for the determination and classification of the cementite lattice in the wire rod with increased carbon content. The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee 08/2 "Walzdraht zum Ziehen" ("Wire rod for drawing") at DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
