DIN EN ISO 15512 specifies methods for the determination of the water content of plastics in the form of powder, granules, and finished articles. These methods do not test for water absorption (kinetics and equilibrium) of plastics as measured by ISO 62. These methods are intended for determining water content s up to 0,01 % or better. Water content is an important parameter for processing materials and should always remain below the level specified in the appropriate material standard. Four alternative methods are specified in this standard: method A - extraction with anhydrous methanol, method B1 - water vaporization using a tube oven for heating, method B2 - water vaporization using a heated sample vial and method C - manometric method. In this standard, a procedure is included for optimization of the heating temperature in order to choose the correct temperature for the water content determination and to improve interlaboratory comparability. This document (EN ISO 15512:2014) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61 "Plastics" in collaboration with Technical Committee ISO/TC 249 "Plastics" (secretariat: NBN, Belgium). The responsible German body involved in its preparation is Working Committee NA 054-01-03 AA "Physikalische, rheologische und analytische Prüfungen" ("Physical, rheological and analytical tests") of the DIN Standards Committee Plastics (FNK).
