European Standard EN ISO 14509-1 has been published as part of the parallel coordination procedure of ISO and CEN. DIN EN ISO 14509-1 describes a procedure for measuring the maximum pass-by sound pressure level of powered recreational craft up to 24 m in length. This includes boats with a built-in engine, boats with stern drive and personal watercraft (jet skis). In addition, the noise measurement on outboard engines and on stern drives with integrated exhaust systems is described, which is carried out using the same procedure using standard boats. The characteristics of the respective standard boat are specified. A normative annex describes a method for measuring the sound exposure level if its determination is required in addition to the maximum pass-by sound pressure level. In the measurement procedure described, a distinction is made between acceptance tests and control measurements. Stricter conditions shall be observed for the former. The maximum pass-by sound pressure level is measured using the time weighting S. The main operating condition for all the test methods described is passing at 100% of the specified engine speed. However, the throttle supply shall also be set so that the boat's maximum speed of 70 km/h is not exceeded during the measurement. The new edition of the standard, the previous version of which has been published as DIN EN ISO 14509, became necessary because the strict requirements with regard to the maximum permissible wind speed and wave height at the measurement location often made it impossible to carry out measurements. These requirements have been relaxed somewhat in this edition of the standard. The standard contains a clause with considerations on the measurement uncertainty of the methods described. An informative annex provides an example of a measurement report form. The International Standard ISO 14509-1 on which this standard is based has been prepared with German participation at ISO/TC 188/WG 28 "Airborne sound measurement" and with the collaboration of ISO/TC 43/SC 1 "Noise". Subcommittee NA 001-01-05-02 UA "Wasserfahrzeuge - Kenngrößen" ("Watercraft - Characteristics") at DIN Working Committee NA 001-01-05 AA "Geräuschemissionsmessungen an Fahrzeugen einschließlich Messungen im Fahrgastraum und am Arbeitsplatz" ("Measurement of sound exposition on road vehicles, including measurements inside the passenger compartment and at the workplace") of NALS is responsible for the German collaboration.
