This standard establishes general principles and specifies requirements for the design and testing of those pressure-sensitive protective devices, with or without an external reset facility. The majority of these protective devices is produced for specific applications and is not available as "off-the-shelf" items. The document is not applicable to stopping devices used exclusively for normal operation (including emergency stop). It shall also not apply for use in locations accessible to elderly or disabled people or children and for which special additional requirements can be necessary. During revision of this standard, necessary adaptations to the control system standard DIN EN ISO 13849-1 have been made. The International Standard on which this standard is based has been prepared according the Vienna Agreement by Working Group 9 "Pressure-sensitive protective devices" of ISO/TC 199 "Safety of machinery", in collaboration with CEN/TC 144 of the same name (all secretariats: DIN) and replaces the previous DIN EN 1760-3. The responsible German standardization committee is Joint Working Committee "Schaltmatten, Schaltplatten, Schaltleisten" ("Pressure-sensitive protective devices") (NA 095-01-02 GA) of NASG with the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM).
This document replaces DIN EN 1760-3:2009-09 .
