The standard establishes general principles and specifies requirements for the design and testing of pressure-sensitive edges and pressure-sensitive bars used as safeguards and not as actuating devices for normal operation. The document is applicable to pressure-sensitive edges and pressure-sensitive bars, with or without an external reset facility, used to detect persons or body parts that can be exposed to hazards. The standard is limited to the function of pressure-sensitive edges and pressure-sensitive bars and does not specify requirements with regard to their application (for example, dimensions for a particular application). Clause 6 contains requirements for the "Information for use" which shall be provided by the manufacturer. The document is not applicable to stopping devices according to DIN EN 60204-1 used only for normal operation, including emergency stopping of machinery. During revision of this standard, necessary adaptations to the control system standard DIN EN ISO 13849-1 have been made. The International Standard on which this standard is based has been prepared according the Vienna Agreement by Working Group 9 "Pressure-sensitive protective devices" of ISO/TC 199 "Safety of machinery", in collaboration with CEN/TC 114 of the same name (all secretariats: DIN) and replaces the previous DIN EN 1760-2. The responsible German standardization committee is Joint Working Committee "Schaltmatten, Schaltplatten, Schaltleisten" ("Pressure-sensitive protective devices") (NA 095-01-02 GA) of NASG with the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM).
This document replaces DIN EN 1760-2:2009-08 .
